Your name. Review

170989_frontYour name. is a movie that first played on August 16th of 2016. The movie was extremely well received in Japan and almost as well worldwide.  The story follows two main characters, Mitsuha Miyamizu, a young high school girl living in a small village in rural Japan. She dreams of living her life as a young boy in Tokyo. Meanwhile, Taki Tachibana, also a high schooler is struggling with daily life in Tokyo, trying all he can to deal with his dream aspiration and a part-time job. Then one day for no conceivable reason Mitsuha awakes in a room that is not hers, even more, bizarre is the fact that it’s not even her body but in fact is the body of Taki. Likewise, Taki awakes in Mitsuha’s body. The two begin the search for one another in order to find the answers behind what is happening to them.

My Review: Firstly, the animation is spectacular as are most of  Makoto Shinkai’s movies. This one, in particular, is a real treat for the eyes. My opinion of the story, however, is where things start to get a bit rocky. I kept thinking that the story was always in flux, It would shift between something amazingly deep to something mundane and just not interesting. Although I will say that the last quarter really knocked my legs out from under me, in a good way. One aspect that really shone for me was just to watch how Taki and Mitsuha interact with one another and how that bond grow between them, even though they’ve never actually met. For me, this movie is pretty fun to watch and I would definitely recommend it to anyone, even non-anime fans.

I rate this anime 4/5.
