Corpse Party: Tortured Souls Review

81kdzcygkyl-_sl1280_Corpse Party: Tortured Souls was released on July 24, 2013. This OVA is based on the Corpse party BloodCovered: …Repeated Fear PSP game from 2010. The story details the events that happen to a group of nine high school students who gather together to say goodbye to a member of their group. The perform a traditional ceremony using a good luck charm akin to small paper dolls. Unfortunately for the students, the charms are connected to Heavenly Host Academy, a decrepit elementary school that was shut down after a series of brutal child murders occurred. The school lies beneath their own school in an alternate dimension. This school in now haunted the vindictive spirits of the children who were murdered. The students must work together to try to find the way out of this hell, or else face eternal suffering as just another victim of the spirits.

My Review: Corpse Party: Tortured Souls is what it is. There is a lot of blood, guts and death so don’t expect to hear me getting too philosophical, but for what it is, it’s pretty good. However, It’s definitely not for the squirmish considering the fact that just about every death is off the charts brutal and there is quite a big of graphic imagery. The show definitely has a strong atmosphere which makes it great for watching alone, late at night with all the lights off. The show isn’s really long, in fact, it would only take you a little over two hours to watch all four episodes so I can see this also being great for a Halloween party. As of writing this I haven’t played any of the games, so I can’t say how similar the two are but if you are a fan of the games then you may enjoy this as well.

I rate this anime 3/5.
