Baka and Test: Summon the Beasts Review

Baka_and_Test_Summon_the_Beasts_UK_DVD_CoverBaka and Test: Summon the Beasts first episode was released in 2010. The show focuses on Akihisa, a lovable well-rounded idiot. He attends the Fumizuki Academy, a school that separates students into classes based on their test scores. Those with a high score attend class A and have access to premium equipment and superior educational devices, those with the lowest scores attend class F and have access to nothing of any value. The Fumizuki Academy has implemented a videogame-ish system where students may battle other classes with avatars. The strength of those avatars is based upon the students score in the previous test. If a class wins, they then have access to all the equipment of the class they beat. Akihisa and the rest of class F have resolved to beat class A and win all of their equipment.

My Review: This show was pretty good. There were some really funny moments that really stand out. I would have liked to see the love triangle have more of a focus than it did as it seemed to be relatively important. The ending was somewhat of a disappointment although it was certainly in the style of the show. There is also much that can be said regarding the characters, a few of them just seem to be thrown in there to fill out the register but on the whole, they were all really interesting and added their own dynamic aspect to the episodes.  I would like to see a season 2 as I think there are many aspects that could be built upon and it would really be a shame to let such a beauty go to waste.

I rate this anime 3/5
